And the children shall lead them...young family members of Naval
Hospital Bremerton staff members lead the command in wrapping up the
traditional Friday Morning Colors with reciting the Pledge of Allegiance,
April 26, 2019, in conjunction with NHB's recognizing April as Month of the
Military Child. NHB specifically acknowledged their young family members
during a special ceremony to recognize the special sacrifices all children
make as part of a military family. And they are not alone. There are
approximately 1.88 million active duty and reserve component military
children - with the majority ages five and younger, followed by ages six to
11, 12-18 years of age and 19-22 years of age. "It is essential that we
take the time to recognize and pay tribute to our children, who
demonstrate amazing resilience in support of their family, and really our
entire command. Their energy and optimism makes us as parents better, our
community better, and their family, our command, and our nation stronger.
They are our lifeblood and such a vital component in all we do," said Capt.
Jeffrey Bitterman, Naval Hospital Bremerton commanding officer. According
to the Department of Defense Education Activity, the average child in a
military family will move six to nine times during a school career, an
average of three times more frequently than nonmilitary families (Official
