An MI-17 helicopter door gunner from the Afghan national army (ANA) air corps, keeps a watchful eye during a mission on July 25, flown from Kabul International Airport (KIA) in Afghanistan. U.S. Air Force members act as mentors to the ANA soldiers and are assigned to the Combined Security Transition Command-Afghanistan (CSTC-A) headquartered at Camp Eggers in Kabul, Afghanistan. CSTC-A partners with the government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and the international community, to plan, program, and implement structural, organizational, institutional and management reforms of the Afghanistan national security forces. The 500+ military members assigned to CSTC-A provide mentorship and training to the Afghan national army and to the Afghan national police in order to develop a stable Afghanistan, strengthen the rule of law, and deter and defeat terrorism within its borders.
