To streamline Operation Blue Roof installations and get survivors back in their homes, the temporary roofing team is utilizing real-time data to verify and sometimes re-define the scope of work with contractors on the ground. If for any reason the installation requires more or less resources than what was estimated in the initial inspection, contractors will relay that information back to the Corps of Engineers quality assurance team for on-the-spot dispute resolution. Virtually resolving scope of work disputes is one of several ways Chris Ford (second-from-right), quality assurance supervisor, and his team, including Jeffrey Mangum (right), contract dispute team, are utilizing technology to improve the speed at which recovery operations can be done.
Ford, from the New York District, has been in Florida since early October supporting Task Force Michael and has been pushing technology, including the use of unmanned aircraft systems, or drones, to collect enhanced data and complete missions faster.
Mangum, with the New England District, is part of the dispute team created specifically here at Task Force Michael to hasten Blue Roof installations.
