First Lt. Diane J. Salmela, one of the initial on-scene commanders, briefs information regarding the situation and security measures recorded earlier on the side of one of the emergency vehicles during Mission Assurance Training Exercise 2011 on Camp Hansen Oct. 5. The scenario for the exercise was that terrorists wearing suicide vests laden with improvised explosive devices set off an explosion at the camp's club during a social event. The camp's military police, camp guard and emergency responders then sprang into action to resolve the situation. The exercise allowed Camp Hansen-based personnel to hone their anti-terrorism and mass-casualty care capabilities. Salmela is a platoon commander with Military Police District North.
