Master-at-Arms 3rd Class William Zar is presented a letter of appreciation by Cmdr. Jay Sego, commanding officer of Naval Support Activity Panama City during an all hands meeting held September 7, 2018. While on duty at the entry control point to the base, Petty Officer Zar spotted an elderly gentlman driving erratically as he attempted to enter the base on August 9, 2018. Zar immediately directed the man into the inspection lane where it was determined by first responders he was exhibiting signs of dementia. Petty Officer Zar's immediate response enabled a quick intervention preventing any possible to him or others.
