Maj. Gen. Walter E. Piatt, 10th Mountain Division (LI) and Fort Drum commanding general, joins Quirino Augusto “Augie” Alteri and his son Pail Alteri at the POW Cemetery outside of Fort Drum, New York. Members of the Alteri family and representative of Fort Drum gathered Aug. 24 for a wreath-laying ceremony to honor the sole Italian prisoner of war buried there. This renews a tradition the Alteri family started in 1985 to coincide with the annual Bravo Italiano Festival in Watertown, New York. (Phot by Mike Strasser, Fort Drum Garrison Public Affairs)
