MIAMI -- U.S. Marine Corps Gen. Joe Dunford, 19th Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, visited the headquarters of U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) today to meet with its commander, U.S. Navy Adm. Kurt Tidd, and other command senior leaders. Dunford and Tidd met privately before taking part in briefings covering security challenges of concern to the United States and its security partners in the hemisphere. SOUTHCOM is one of the nation's six geographically-focused unified commands with responsibility for U.S. military operations in the Caribbean, Central America and South America.
