"The submarine community has always presented itself as a challenge to be overcome," said Machinist's Mate (nuclear) 1st Class Tyler Volcensek, from Milwaukee, Wisconsin and assigned to the Virginia-class fast-attack submarine USS Hawaii. "Submariners have always instilled themselves to be a different breed of person. To understand that it's more challenging brings me excitement because seeking out a challenge is one of the reasons why I joined the military."
