Command Sgt. Maj. John Smiley, command sergeant major of the 648th MEB, re-enlisted for six additional years here on the 10 year anniversary of 9/11. In a brief ceremony, 648th MEB Commander Col. Andy Hall administered the oath in front of an informal formation of 2HHC, 648th MEB soldiers. Upon fulfilling this commitment, Smiley will have served in the Army National Guard for 36 years.
“Re-enlisting today was important for two reasons,” said Smiley. “I am honored to be re-enlisted in front of the fine soldiers if the 648th and I’m honored that I got to do it on 9/11. This day represents why we do what we do.”
