Gail Walters, spouse of the Assistant Commandant of the Marine Corps, attended a meet and greet function with other Marine Corps Installations East spouses at the Marine Corps Air Station New River Marina on MCAS New River, June 7, 2018. The event featured extensive one-on-one conversations and a video and slideshow presentation by Alicia Hedelund, spouse of the commanding general of 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force.
Walters and Hedelund discussed the roles and responsibilities that being a Marine Corps spouse entails.
“I believe that we are the keepers of the kin,” said Walters. “I believe that we are the network that holds the families together so that the principles, male or female, can go out and fight the best fights.”
Spouses were able to ask questions and share their knowledge about difficulties they have faced with others who may need insight.
“I think it is great (that Mrs. Walters is here),” said Marisa Thresher, spouse of the sergeant major of II MEF. “We love seeing our leadership come down and speak to us about things that are going on at their level to pass to us.”
