Staff Sgt. Daniel Brett Rhodes is a chief of the 6th section, 2nd Howitzer platoon from Bravo Battery, 3rd Battalion, 320th Field Artillery Regiment, 101st Airborne Division Artillery Brigade.

He’s 32 years old and a Cannon Crewmember (13B) from Blue Ridge, Georgia.

Rhodes has a wife and a son going on two, who reside with him on Fort Campbell.

Prior to joining the Army, Rhodes owned a tire store.

“So my grandfather owned a tire store and he kind of gave it to me as my high school graduation gift,” said Rhodes. “I worked for him since I was a kid. Almost everything I made paid for things I use to do as a kid, racing and fishing and stuff like that.”

Rhodes stated, his uncle and grandfather were a big influence on his life and the reason why he joined.

“I saw what they did growing up and it’s just one of those things I wanted to come into it,” said Rhodes.

Rhodes picked 13B because the video at the recruiting office snagged him, he said.

“You use to hear a lot about the FA (Field Artillery) working hand and hand with the Infantry and how shooting and fighting paves the way for the future and I wanted to be a part of that I guess you could say.”

Some of the opportunities he has experienced in this career field is getting to work hand in hand with people from all walks of life.

“I enjoy being around different people, but what I really like about my job is leading Soldiers, working the Soldiers, being outdoors and shooting big guns. Those are the same reasons I like the Army.”

In the future, Rhodes wants to achieve a Bachelor’s Degree, and in addition, a degree in welding.

As for his side hobbies, he’s a big outdoorsmen. He likes to hunt, fish, ride around on 4-wheeled ATV’s, or anything with a motor, and he also Bow fishes.

“Bow fishing is amazing, that’s the only way I can explain it. It’s my thing that I do every weekend. Any chance I get time I’m off work, I’m on the river.”
