Staff Sgt. Dallas Wood, Company A., 1st Infantry Battalion, 16th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, originally from Buckeye, Arizona, stands behind the grave marker of Pvt. Lewis B. Hazelton, 165th Infantry, 42 Infantry Division, also of Buckeye, prior to a memorial day ceremony at the Oise-Aisne American Cemetery, France, May 27, 2018. Hazelton was the first person from Buckeye to be killed in action during World War I on July 28, 1918. Nearly 100 years later, Wood felt compelled to seek out this hometown hero and pay his respects. “He was the first kid that was killed from that town in the war,” Wood said. “They have a cemetery and everything named after him back in Buckeye.” (U.S. Army photo by Sgt.
