British Sailors from Royal Navy Fleet Diving Unit 3 conduct safety checks on their equipment aboard Landing Craft Unit (LCU) 1645 before diving. LCU 1645 is part of Assault Craft Unit (ACU) 2, which is attached to USS Shreveport (LPD 12). The ship served as the flagship for commander, Mine Countermeasures Squadron (MCMRON) 3 during Exercise Arabian Guantlet 2007. Shreveport is on a regularly-scheduled deployment as part of the Bataan Expeditionary Strike Group, which is conducting Maritime Security Operations (MSO). MSO help set the conditions for security and stability in the maritime environment, as well as complements the counter-terrorism and security efforts of regional nations. These operations deny international terrorists the use of the maritime environment as a venue for attack or to transport personnel, weapons or other material.
