U.S. Army Corps of Engineers quality assurance representative Robert Espalin, a dam operator at the Corps' Los Angeles District, records truck load data July 26. Espalin is one of more than 300 Corps employees nationwide to support federal disaster recovery operations here after an EF-5 tornado destroyed almost a third of the city May 22. As of July 26, Corps contractors have removed 1.34 million cubic yards of debris from city streets and more than 1,400 private properties.
