Jeff Ice, quality assurance officer with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, oversees installation of a concrete, 77,000-pound tornado shelter July 14 at Duenweg Elementary School just east of Joplin, Mo. Nine of the shelters were installed for Duenweg and Duquesne elementary schools. Built to withstand winds up to 250 mph, each unit will be equipped with two 300-pound metal doors.
