Lance Cpl. Mitchell Hein, a forward scout, with the Light Armored Reconnaissance Detachment of the Battalion Landing Team 3/1, 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit, begins his daily workout with a 20-minute ride on the cycle machine aboard the Wasp-class amphibious ship USS Essex (LHD2), March 27,2018. “It’s easy to get complaisant on ship,” said Hein. “So I fight that complaisance with a hard workout every day.” The Essex Amphibious Ready Group and 13th MEU fully integrated for the first time before their summer deployment.
