Tammy Duckworth, assistant secretary for Public and Intergovernmental Veteran Affairs, salutes at a Memorial Day wreath laying at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific in Honolulu, Hawaii. Duckworth lost both legs and part of her right arm during the Iraq War in 2004. Iraqi insurgents struck the helicopter she was piloting with a rocket propelled grenade. Duckworth is a long-time proponent for veterans with disabilities. She continues to serves as a major in the Illinois National Guard. President Obama appointed her to her current post in 2009.
