More than an estimated 100,000 #bats are swarming #FortGordon, turning the sky black and roosting throughout the installation. Fort Gordon community personnel and residents are advised to remain indoors until the bats, comprised of various species, have vacated the premises. Spotting bats during daylight hours is rare and may be due to climate changes or need to hunt for food.
Should you encounter bats, please exercise caution. Bats are known to carry diseases that can affect humans and their pets, so it is important to learn how you can stay safe when bats are near. If a solitary bat is found on the ground and is easily approached, it may be sick and should be avoided.
