The Team Hill Science, Engineering & Technical Management (SE&TM) Awards were held on the 85th Anniversary of the first blind solo flight on 9 May 1932, by Captain Albert Hegenberger. Using an instrument system he helped develop, he left Patterson Field in Dayton, Ohio, in a single-engine plane with a cockpit cover that obscured his view. He flew 10 miles from the field at 2,000 feet, circled and returned to land. He was awarded the 1934 Collier (Robert J.) Trophy by President Roosevelt for this accomplishment. The graphic for the SE&TM Awards was designed around this theme, creating a montage of images from this noteworthy historical event.
