Severe Cold Temperature Conditions in South Texas Results in the Rescue of Over 20 Illegal Aliens by Laredo Sector Border Patrol Agents

LAREDO, Texas – In a 24-hour period, from December 7-8, 2017, Border Patrol agents rescued over 20 illegal aliens in Laredo, Hebbronville, Freer and Zapata, Texas. The subjects had fallen into distress due to the recent severe cold temperature conditions and/or after they became lost while walking in the brush. Border Patrol agents, to include those assigned to the Laredo Sector Horse Patrol Unit, were deployed to locate the distressed subjects throughout different locations in the Laredo and surrounding communities. As a result, 25 illegal aliens were rescued in nine different events. Some of the subjects located displayed symptoms of moderate to severe hypothermia; however, after Border Patrol agents certified as Emergency Medical Technicians assisted in evaluating the subjects and providing initial care, they were able to recover their core body temperatures and determined to be in good health.

The illegal aliens were determined to be from the countries of Mexico, El Salvador, and Honduras.
