Col. Michael Pappal, commander, 1st Advise and Assist Task Force, 1st Infantry Division, tours an Iraqi checkpoint with Capt. Mark Quivers, commander, Company D, 2nd Battalion 12th Cavalry Regiment, 1st AATF, in Kirkuk City, Iraq, March 29. Pappal, who took command of 1st AATF, March 28, said he toured the checkpoint to gain a better understanding of brigade operations in Kirkuk. The soldiers of Company D work with members of the Kirkuk Police Emergency Response Unit to minimize violent extremist and criminal activity in the city.
