Warrior Transition Brigade cadre, Staff Sgt. Marcel Weaver, reads to his 7-year-old son, Marco, during the brigade's Adopt A-School recent reading night at Fort Hood Clark Elementary School. Weaver was one of several WTB soldiers participating in the reading event in honor of National Reading Month, held annually in March to honor the birth of Theodor Geisel, otherwise known as Dr. Seuss. An avid reader, Weaver and his wife promote reading at home with 7 p.m. mandatory reading hour for all family members. At that time, Weaver and his family turn off the cell phones, televisions and computers to devote an hour to reading. Although he and his wife always have been avid readers, the couple made it a mandatory family event after reading research papers written by high-school honor-roll students and discovering many of them couldn't write a complete sentence, in addition to demonstrating inadequate grammar skills. Weaver is from Washington, D.C. and enjoys reading because “brings life to words” and allows him to experience something new every time he turns the page.
