The U.S. flag, finial damaged by the passage of Hurricane Irma, flies defiantly alongside that of the U.S. Virgin Islands in the winds preceding Hurricane Maria at the Leonard B. Francis Armory in St. Thomas, Sept. 19, 2017. Both hurricanes impacted the Caribbean Islands within a two week period resulting in multiple fatalities, severe damage to infrastructure, and extended losses of both electricity and communications.
