III Marine Expeditionary Force Marines and sailors disembark from a KC-130J Hercules aircraft here March 12, 2011, during a humanitarian assistance/disaster relief mission in response to the 8.9 magnitude earthquake and subsequent tsunami that struck Japan March 11. III MEF (Forward), is working to provide food, water, and medical supplies to those in support of Operation Tomodachi. The proximity of Marine aviation assets at MCAS Futenma has allowed Marines from III MEF to rapidly deploy critically-needed supplies and aid to areas that need it most.
