San Diego, Calif. (Aug. 11, 2017) Rear Adm. John Wade, commander, Naval Surface and Mine Warfighting Development Center (SMWDC), speaks with students of the Surface Warfare Officer School (SWOS) Command's Basic Division Officer Course (BDOC) on board Naval Station San Diego, Aug. 11. During his visit, Wade spoke with students about his experiences as a young surface warfare officer, SMWDC's role in the surface warfare community, and provided mentorship by presenting principles for a successful division officer tour. SMWDC is one of the Navy's five Warfare Development Centers (WDC) and fills a integral role in the Surface Force Strategy: Return to Sea Control.
