Color Guard Marines with Headquarters Battalion, 1st Marine Division (Forward) practice for the 70th anniversary of the “Blue Diamond,” aboard Camp Leatherneck, Jan. 24, 2011. Sgt. Carl Evans, Cpl. Carlos Moreno, Lance Cpl. Joshua Kaibel and Lance Cpl. Martin Carranza were all selected to be part of the Color Guard while here in Afghanistan to present the National Ensign and Marine Corps Colors during the division’s 70th anniversary ceremony scheduled for Feb. 1. The 1st Marine Division was activated aboard the battleship USS Texas, Feb. 1, 1941. It is the oldest, largest, and most decorated division in the United States Marine Corps. The units in the 1st Marine Division are a combat-ready force comprised of more than 22,000 Marines and sailors.
