U.S. Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Michael Marchante instructs a Combat Life Saving class June 21, 2017, at Naval Station Leovigildo Gantioqui, San Antonio, Zambales, Philippines. U.S. Marines and Navy Corpsmen are in the Philippines as part of Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training/ SAMA SAMA 2017 to train Marines with the Philippine Marine Corps, student officers with the Naval Education and Training Command and civilian first responders in lifesaving techniques and skills. Marchante is a native of Murrieta, California. The Marines and Navy Corpsmen are with Kilo Company, 3rd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, which is forward deployed to 4th Marine Regiment as part of the Unit Deployment Program.
