    200th Military Police Command

Five years ago, Spc. Keith Blake, of East Peoria, Illinois, received the Purple Heart for shrapnel wounds he sustained during an attack on June 19, 2012, on a provincial compound near Kandahar, Afghanistan, when four men entered the area dressed as Afghan Uniformed Police, throwing grenades and shot Soldiers, killing one interpreter and one civilian contractor. Blake was conducting a personal security detail mission with the 303rd Military Police Company at the time. He was immediately evacuated and later recovered at Walter Reed and Fort Belvoir, Virginia. He is now a U.S. Army Reserve military police with the 339th MP Co., out of Davenport, Iowa. On the five-year anniversary of the attack this week, Blake was training with his unit on a route reconnaissance mission at Fort Hunter Liggett, California, and missed out on a picnic organized by Soldiers of his former unit held to commemorate the event.
