Sgt. Jeremiah J. Gougeon receives a fl u shot from Seaman Robert F. Dotter at the Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron conference room, Oct. 28. Flu vaccinations ensure 100 percent readiness for Marines’ health in case they are called for duty. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, early fl u vaccination should begin as soon as the vaccine is available and continue throughout the influenza season, into December, January and beyond. This is because the timing and duration of influenza seasons vary. While influenza outbreaks can happen as early as October, most of the time influenza activity peaks in January or later.
