Sgt. 1st Class Fred Smith, lead mechanic and platoon sergeant of Headquarters Platoon, 3-19th Agricultural Development Team, Indiana National Guard, spends time with his wife and kids as they play on a Mine Resistant Ambush Protected vehicle on display for families at the unit's Afghanistan departure ceremony Sept. 25 at Camp Atterbury Joint Maneuver Training Center in central Indiana. The unit is made up of soldiers and airmen from across Indiana with a wide range of experience including forestry, engineering, general farming, pest management, horticulture, marketing and education. They are deploying to Afghanistan to pass this knowledge on to citizens there.
