U.S. Army 1st Sgt. Clifford D. Ackerman, right, of Andrews, S.C., 1-178th Field Artillery Battalion, South Carolina Army National Guard, enjoys the food and entertainment at a celebration, July 21, for the 66th anniversary of Guam’s liberation from the Japanese in 1944 by U.S. Forces during World War Two. Ackerman is the first sergeant for the 1-178th Field Artillery Battalion stationed at Camp Phoenix, Kabul, Afghanistan. He is serving his second tour of duty with the South Carolina Army National Guard. His first deployment with the 1-178th was in Iraq from 2004-2005. Ackerman is currently on a one year deployment to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. He is in his 39th year of service in the South Carolina Army National Guard.
