Capt. Fred L. Andrews (left), the 497th Movement Control Team commander, and 1st Sgt. Alvin R. Gardner, the unit’s first sergeant, case the colors during an inactivation ceremony Oct. 20. The ceremony not only inactivated the 497th MCT, which belonged to the 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team based out of Fort Benning, Ga., but also the 495th MCT, 87th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 3rd Infantry Division Sustainment Brigade here. Both units were constituted in November 1965 at Fort Eustis, Virginia and went through a series of inactivations and reorganizations before finalizing this inactivation Oct. 15. "The Soldiers of the 497th MCT demonstrated unmatched commitment to excellence, often working long hours to prepare equipment for transport and receiving convoys from various locations,” said 1st Lt. Chelsea R. Dixon, the executive officer of the 497th MCT. “Their dedication to duty and strong work ethic will greatly serve their follow-on units as they move on." (Courtesy photo)
