(Left) Public Affairs Officer Rob Jackson, Marine Corps Logistics Base Barstow, looks on as Cpl. Norman Eckles displays his honorary Desert Rat certificate during a luncheon to celebrate his separation from the Marine Corps. Eckles is a Covina, Calif., native who envisioned deployment to the Middle East as part of his enlistment. Though that didn't happen, Eckles credits the Marine Corps and the people he's met during his time in service with taking a heading-for-trouble teenager and molding him into a man. Eckles plans to pursue his education under the GI Bill and to open his own business.
