Cpl. Gregory G. Silva grills hotdogs, hamburgers and chicken at sea to celebrate crossing the Equator aboard USNS Sacagawea (T-AKE 2) on May 23, 2016 for the ship’s crewmembers and Marines and Sailors with Task Force Koa Moana. The cookout is usually referred to as a “steel beach party” when crossing the Equator. The task force is scheduled to participate in exercises with Fiji, Tonga, Timor Leste and Papua New Guinea to increase relationships and interoperability in the Asia-Pacific region. Silva, from Cypress, Texas, is a food service specialist with Task Force Koa Moana, originally assigned to Food Service Company, Headquarters Regiment, 3rd Marine Logistics Group, III Marine Expeditionary Force.
