The USS Peleliu (LHA 5) Expeditionary Strike Group (ESG) officially departed the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations, July 9, where it had been conducting maritime security operations. The strike group has been deployed since Feb. 15 and is comprised of Peleliu, USS Ogden (LPD 5); USS Port Royal (CG 73); USS Reuben James (FFG 57); USS Gonzalez (DDG 68); USS Germantown (LSD 42); Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 21; Tactical Air Control Squadron 11; Beach Master Unit1; Assault Craft Unit 5; Assault Craft Unit 1 and Explosive Ordinance Disposal Unit 11, Det. 15.
