Reeg Allen of RE2 out of Pittsburgh is shown beside his two-armed robot. RE2 is one of several companies developing two-armed robots for Army explosive ordnance disposal units. It uses a highly dexterous manipulation system that can diffuse bombs without the assist of EOD operators. It's not yet in a program of record but the Army has high interest in this because it could potentially save a lot of lives. Training time is just a few minutes, because everything is intuitive. This photo was taken, March 2, 2016, at a National Defense Industrial Association-sponsored robotics meeting in Springfield, Va.
