Douglas Long, a Colorado Springs, Colo., native and a radio and communications security repairer for Company J, 1st Battalion, 12th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, starts running at 1 a.m. to sneak in anywhere from 18 to 30 miles before formation, Feb. 2 at Fort Hood, Texas.
