Rct. Zachary S. Mosier, Platoon 2016, Hotel Company, 2nd Recruit Training Battalion, swims 25 meters during basic water survival training Feb. 1, 2016, on Parris Island, S.C. Water survival qualification, the first of seven graduation requirements, includes swimming 25 meters, leaping into the water from a 10-foot tower, treading water for four minutes and shedding combat equipment underwater. Mosier, 19, from Hubert, N.C., is scheduled to graduate April 1, 2016. Parris Island has been the site of Marine Corps recruit training since Nov. 1, 1915. Today, approximately 19,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training. Parris Island is home to entry-level enlisted training for approximately 50 percent of males and 100 percent of females in the Marine Corps. (Photo by Sgt. Jennifer Schubert)
