U.S. Air Force Col. Scott Larrimore, director of the Space and Missile Systems Center's Defense Weather Systems Directorate, center and Lt Col. Victor Arizpe give a thumbs up for their stations during a Mission Readiness Review Feb. 5, 2013, for the upcoming launch of 19th Defense Meteorological Satellite Program DMSP block 5D weather satellite at Vandenberg Air Force Base, California. Used to monitor meteorological, oceanographic and solar-terrestrial physics for the Department of Defense, DMSP satellites are managed by Air Force Space Command with on-orbit operations provided by the NOAA. They provide cloud cover imagery from polar orbits that are sun-synchronous at an altitude of 450 nautical miles. (U.S. Air Force photo by Sarah Corrice.)
