JOINT BASE PEARL HARBOR HICKAM -Machinist's Mate Chief-select Jake Hoffman of Fort Collins, Colo., delivers remarks about USS Grayling (SS 209), a Tambor-class submarine lost under mysterious circumstances during a war patrol sometime in early September 1943, during a bell tolling ceremony at the Pearl Harbor Submarine Memorial Chapel, Sept. 9. The ceremony is held monthly to recognize submarine history, and is attended by active-duty service personnel, as well as members of U.S. Submarine Veterans Bowfin Basin Chapter and their families.
