With a yearlong deployment just around the corner, Staff Sgt. Elizabeth Cowie opted for an aggressive treatment plan for her breast cancer that would quickly get her back to her unit. Cowie, who is a 15-year veteran of the Army Reserve and the Army Guard, beat the early-stage cancer and deployed with her unit to Kuwait in 2007. Since that time, Cowie has gotten a follow-up every six months and remains cancer-free today.
