ARTA BEACH, Djibouti (July 24, 2015) U.S. Marine Lance Cpl. Michael Littrell stands guard outside the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit’s cantonment area during sustainment training. Pando is a light armored vehicle gunner of the Light Armored Vehicle (LAV-25), nicknamed "Ole Betsy," with 1st Light Armored Reconnaissance Detachment, Battalion Landing Team 3rd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 15th MEU. Marines maintain an assertive force posture, even during training, to ensure security. Elements of the 15th MEU are ashore in Djibouti for sustainment training to maintain and enhance the skills they developed during their pre-deployment training period. The 15th MEU is currently deployed in support of maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S. 5th and 6th Fleet areas of operation.
