Rct. Lamar J. Booker, a 23-year-old native of Akron, Ohio, is currently training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, S.C., in hopes of earning the title United States Marine. Booker is training with Platoon 2070, Echo Company, 2nd Recruit Training Battalion, and is scheduled to graduate Sept. 4, 2015. “I joined for the leadership and for the challenge of saying I became one of the best,” said Booker, who graduated from the University of Akron in 2014. Approximately 20,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training.
