Representatives from the 47th Civil Support Team, Mississippi National Guard, and the Public Health Laboratory, Mississippi Department of Health, complete the paperwork required to transfer custody of a bioterrorism sample into state control during an annual national laboratory exercise held in Jackson, Miss., May 20,2015. The purpose of the exercise is to test the process used by lab technicians of the 47th to split, package, transport and deliver a sample of a substance. Once in the control of the state lab, their technicians exercise the process of receiving the sample, confirming the sample’s composition and providing the results back to the appropriate authorities based on the exercise scenario. The exercise strengthens relationships between agencies and organizations that work behind the scenes to support first responders statewide when a crisis occurs.
