During the aircraft run-up, Pfc. Kelvio Gomes, from Chicago, a CH-47F Chinook helicopter door gunner in Company B, 2nd Battalion, 227th Aviation Regiment, 1st Air Cavalry Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division, Multi-National Division-Baghdad, moniters aircraft components to ensure proper conditions are maintained, Aug. 8. The crew chiefs and door gunners are responsible for the safety of the passengers and the equipment in the aircraft during flight. They also are responsible for the aircraft's physical security - ready to defend against enemy attackers.
