Sgt. Evan Messer, of Mandan, N.D., who serves with the Jamestown, North Dakota-based 817th Engineer Company (Sapper), fires practice rounds Jan. 24 at the North Dakota Air National Guard shooting range in Fargo, N.D. Last month, he was awarded the “Chief’s 50” badge for superior shooting in pistol competition during the Winston P. Wilson Championship April 25-30 at the National Guard Marksmanship Training Center in North Little Rock, Ark. Messer also took second place in the “Reflexive Fire” individual shooting match.
