Rct. Benjamin A. Diorio, a 23-year-old native of Bangor, Pa., is currently training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, S.C., in hopes of earning the title United States Marine. Diorio is training with Platoon 2038, Echo Company, 2nd Recruit Training Battalion, and is scheduled to graduate May 8, 2015. “I joined for family tradition and to be the toughest,” said Diorio, a 2010 graduate of Pius X High School in Bangor, Pa. “I didn’t want to sit behind a desk.” Approximately 20,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training. Parris Island is home to entry-level enlisted training for 50 percent of males and 100 percent of females in the Marine Corps. (Photo by Pfc. Vanessa Austin)
