Sgt. Rickie Johnson, 10th Sustainment Brigade Human Resources Section non-commissioned officer, and native of Virginia Beach, Va., received the Theodore Roosevelt Medal on June 13 from Col. Steven Shea, the director of the 14th Human Resources Sustainment Center, during the 10th Sustainment Brigade's 234th birthday celebration of the Adjutant General's Corps. This award is for superior achievement in physical fitness. Sgt. Johnson scored a 341 on his most recent Army Physical Fitness Test. The medal is struck by the U.S. Mint from the original die used in making the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Medal. President Roosevelt named Fort Benjamin Harrison the home of the Adjutant General's Corps. He also established the first Army physical fitness test in the War Department, General Order #240, dated Dec. 4, 1907, when he advocated that it is just as much the duty of those who serve their country to adopt such measures and pursue such habits as will maintain a physical condition fit for service to their country as it is to cultivate their minds and in fitting themselves for the intellectual duties of their profession. The purpose of this medal is to promote physical fitness by recognizing members of the Association who achieve a maximum score of at least 300 on the APFT in accordance with Army regulations.
