Elzbieta Straussburger recounts her experiences as a child in Poland during the years of the Holocaust during a presentation at the Army National Guard Readiness Center in Arlington, Va., April 30. Straussburger, born in 1938 in Poland, spent several years living with her mother under an assumed name before finally being reunited with her father in Italy after the war. The family emigrated to the United States where they settled with an aunt, the only other family member to survive. Straussburger, who went on to earn a master's degree in social work and work with troubled children, volunteers at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C., where she speaks about her experiences as a child.
