Sgt. Justin Burnside currently serves as a Marine Corps drill instructor with Echo Company, 2nd Recruit Training Battalion, at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, S.C. Burnside joined the Marine Corps in March 2006 and became a drill instructor in September 2012. “[I became a drill instructor] to reawaken the Corps by instilling discipline and urgency in recruits that are training to become Marines,” said Burnside, a 32-year-old native of Bristol, Fla. About 600 Marine Corps drill instructors shape the approximately 20,000 recruits who come to Parris Island annually into basic United States Marines.
